The 2017 Porsche 911 Carrera, now in its seventh generation, is even tighter with the road, faster and more dynamic than the one that debuted in 1963. Ever since Porsche launched the 911 at the Frankfurt auto show in 1963, the naturally aspirated flat-six engine has been a defining characteristic. The engine on the 911 is a twin-turbocharged, 3.0-liter flat-6, making 370 horsepower and 331 pound-feet of torque which hits 60 mph in 3.4 seconds and runs the quarter mile in 11.9 seconds at 118 mph. PASM, Porsche’s Active Suspension Management system -- which is adaptable -- is now standard on all 911s. It lowers the body about a half-inch compared to the old Carrera which allows it to be more sharper. Porsche does a great job with the steering feel, especially the weight and progression. The Carrera uses an electromechanical setup so the road feel is muted to say the least. An efficiency-minded addition in this Carrera is the dual-clutch automatic (PDK) transmission’s coasting function, which returns the engine to idle just about any time the driver lifts off the throttle.
